At Ailsa Craig Medical Practice, our registration policies are in place to ensure we can provide safe, effective and well-coordinated care for all our patients.
Catchment area
Before filling out a registration form, check you are in our catchment area.
Find out which GPs you can register with on the NHS website.
Registering with the surgery
To register with the surgery:
- use the NHS Register with a GP: Ailsa Craig Medical Practice service
- visit reception from 10am to 6pm and collect a paper registration form
When you register, it’s helpful to have your NHS number. You can use the NHS website to find your NHS number.
Practice boundary
Patients registered with the practice are normally required to live within the practice boundary.
If you move to an address outside of our boundary, your registration will be reviewed and you may be advised to register with a GP practice closer to your new home.
Why this is important
Our practice boundary helps us:
- Provide home visits where clinically appropriate
- Coordinate care with district nurses, community nursing teams and care coordinators
- Work effectively with locality-based services, including Macmillan nursing support
These community services are organised geographically. Being registered with a GP practice close to where you live supports safe, timely and responsive care, particularly if your health needs change.
You can find GP practices accepting new patients using the NHS GP finder.
Family registration
We are a family GP practice and encourage whole households and families to be registered with the same GP practice wherever possible. This supports continuity of care, clear communication and our safeguarding responsibilities.
Children’s registrations
As a family practice, we do not usually accept registrations for children where their parent(s) or legal guardian(s) are not also registered with the practice.
This helps ensure:
- Safe and effective clinical care
- Clear responsibility for consent and communication
- Appropriate safeguarding and follow-up
Exceptions
We recognise that some circumstances require flexibility. Exceptions may be considered on a case-by-case basis, for example:
- Looked-after children
- Children living with a registered guardian
- Other safeguarding or welfare considerations
Need advice?
