ADHD assessment via Right to Choose (RTC)

Patient information: ADHD Assessment via Right to Choose (RTC)

If you have expressed interest in pursuing an ADHD assessment and/or treatment under the Right to Choose (RTC) pathway. Please read the following important information before proceeding:

What is the Right to Choose (RTC)?

Under the NHS Constitution, you have the right to choose which provider carries out your assessment and treatment, including private providers who offer services under the NHS through RTC. This can be a helpful option for reducing waiting times for ADHD assessments.

Important prescribing information

Please note:

  • Your GP practice will not take on shared care or prescribing responsibilities for ADHD medications initiated through a Right to Choose provider.
  • If you are diagnosed with ADHD and medication is recommended, the prescribing and monitoring will need to be managed entirely by the RTC provider, either through their own prescribers or private arrangements.
  • We encourage you to check with the provider beforehand whether they offer full prescribing and titration services independently of the GP.

What you need to do

  • Research and choose an RTC-eligible ADHD provider (e.g., Psychiatry UK, ADHD 360, etc.).
  • Contact the provider directly or visit their website to begin the referral process.
  • You may need to ask your GP for a referral – we can assist with this as long as the chosen provider is RTC-compliant.

If you have any questions about the referral process, please get in touch with the practice team. However, we are unable to support medication management or ongoing monitoring following RTC ADHD assessments.

Thank you for your understanding.
